Directions to Morningside Campus ::

The Columbia campus on Morningside Heights is located at Broadway and 116th Street in Manhattan. Drivers should note that in New York City right turns at red lights are illegal unless traffic signs state otherwise.  The chemistry department is located in the Havemeyer building.

BY SUBWAY/TAXI FROM PENN STATION

At Penn Station, look for the Uptown 1 line (red). You can buy a metrocard at the booth just before the subway entrance. Look for the Uptown 1 Local (red). You will be at the 34th Street and Penn Station stop. Do not take the Express (2 or 3 lines), since it does not stop at Columbia. The Local makes stops at 42 St, 50 St, 59 St, 66 St, 72 St, 79 St, 86 St, 96 St, 103 St, 110 St and 116 St. 116 St is the Columbia stop. (If you somehow miss and go down to 125th Street, go to the downtown platform without leaving the station and take the next train one stop to 116th Street.). At 116th street (Columbia University), exit the station to the right via the revolving grate, and walk up to the street level.

Walk one block north (exit on the left hand side of the subway and continue in the same directions as the stairs leading to the outside world) to 117 Street, which is a gate that leads to the main campus (across the street is Barnard College). At the top of the stairs take a left (Mathematics is to your immediate left) and head toward Havemeyer Hall, one of the main Chemistry buildings.

Go into Havemeyer, and you will be on the 300 level of Havemeyer. Lectures will take place in Havemeyer Room 309.

Alternatively you can take a taxi. If you do that ask the driver to take you to 117 th Street and Broadway and follow the directions above. If you get lost please give a call to 212 854 1129 (Steffen), or 212 854 2179 (Turro Group Phone).

BY CAR FROM THE NORTH

Take the New York Thruway (I-87) or the New England Thruway (I-95) south to the Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95) in the direction of the George Washington Bridge. Take the exit for the Henry Hudson Parkway south (the last exit before the bridge). Exit the Parkway at West 95th Street and Riverside Drive and follow the directions "From Riverside Drive and 95th Street," below.

BY CAR FROM SOUTH OR WEST

Take the New Jersey Turnpike north or I-80 east to the George Washington Bridge. As you cross the bridge, take the exit for the Henry Hudson Parkway south. Exit the Parkway at West 95th Street and Riverside Drive and follow the directions "From Riverside Drive and 95th Street," below.

BY CAR FROM LONG ISLAND

Take the Long Island Expressway or the Grand Central Parkway west to the Cross Island Parkway north. Cross the Throgs Neck Bridge onto the Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95 south) and proceed as in "By Car from the North," above.

BY CAR FROM THE NEW YORK AIRPORTS

From LaGuardia: Take the Grand Central Parkway west to the Triborough Bridge, to Manhattan. Follow 125th Street across Manhattan 12 blocks to Broadway, which is under an elevated subway structure. Turn left onto Broadway and go south to 116th Street.

From Kennedy: Take the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) to the Whitestone Bridge and across. Get onto I-95 south and follow the directions under "By Car from the North," above.

From Newark: Follow directions under "By Car from the South or West," above.

FROM RIVERSIDE DRIVE AND WEST 95TH STREET

Go north on Riverside Drive to 116th Street. Turn right and go two blocks to Broadway and the University's main gate. Please note that the main gate is not open to traffic.

BY TRAIN OR BUS

Trains to New York arrive at Grand Central Station or Pennsylvania Station, while buses stop at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Visitors arriving at these stations can take either public transportation or a taxi north to the campus.

BY NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Five bus lines (M4, M5, M11, M60, M104) and one subway line (the #1 local) serve the Columbia neighborhood. The M60 bus is a direct link between campus and LaGuardia Airport. The Columbia stop is 116th Street. Do not use express trains #2 and #3, which follow a different route and do not stop at Columbia University; if you do, be certain to transfer at 96th Street to the #1 local.

The maps page on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Web site has PDF versions of all Subway and Bus maps.

BY AIR

For visitors coming into LaGuardia, Kennedy, or Newark airports, taxi service is available to the campus (about $25 from LaGuardia; from Kennedy a flat rate of $45 plus tolls), and there is bus service to Grand Central Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Bus service directly from LaGuardia airport to Columbia, the M60 city bus, is also available.

ONCE ON CAMPUS

Once you are on campus, you will want to navigate to Havemeyer Hall. A map to Havemeyer hall can be found here. Note: Broadway is on the left of the map, Amsterdam on the right of the map, 120th st. and 116th st. at the top and bottom, respectively.
